SOUTH DOWN FOOTBALL ENDS ON A HIGH
Last week our two football teams headed over to Donard Park, Newcastle to take part in the last competition in the South Down League.
With most of their players playing for the school for the first time, the second team put in a great performance over the three matches in their group. They beat Newcastle PS in their first match, lost by the odd goal to St Mary’s Newcastle in their second and finally were beaten by St Columban’s Kilkeel in their last match.
The first team topped their group in a very competitive last match against Carnacaville. In the semi final, playing some lovely football, they beat Kilkeel 1-0.
The final, against St Mary’s, was a very tough, competitive game with both teams making the most of the strong wind in each half. Fair Hill took an early lead and thought they had won it, only for St Mary’s to score with the last kick of the game.
In the penalty shootout, St Mary’s missed their first two pens, thanks to our keeper Jake. Daniel and Archie then stepped up to score their penalties to bring the trophy back to Fair Hill.
Well done boys.
