Guide Dog Visit
21st Jan 2025
Raymond the guide dog recently visited the P1 and P2 classes, providing an educational experience for the students. The boys and girls were very attentive throughout the visit, listening carefully as they learned about the important role guide dogs play in assisting people with visual impairments. Raymond’s handler explained how guide dogs are specially trained to help their owners navigate safely, highlighting tasks such as leading their owners around obstacles, stopping at curbs, and finding doorways.
The children were eager to ask questions, demonstrating a keen interest in understanding how guide dogs are trained and the responsibilities of being a guide dog owner. They asked thoughtful questions, such as how long it takes for a dog to become a guide dog and what types of tasks they perform on a daily basis. The students were especially fascinated by Raymond’s calm and focused demeanor, which made it clear how essential these dogs are to their owners’ independence.
The visit was a valuable learning experience for the children, giving them a deeper understanding of how guide dogs help people in their everyday lives. It also fostered an appreciation for the hard work and dedication required to train and care for these incredible animals.
